WHAT IS THE FULL FORM OF LIG MIG AND HIG FLATS?

LIG, simply stands for Low Income Group or Grade. MIG stands for Middle Income Group or Grade. And finally, HIG stands for High Income Group or Grade. HOW DO WE DECIDE THE LIG MIG AND HIG GROUP?

Well, these categories are decided based on the income the group of people earn annually.

LIG includes the household that earns an income between ₹ 3 Lakh to ₹ 6 Lakh on annual basis or annually. People who belong to the low-income group are capable of making at least ₹ 3 to ₹ 6 Lakh annually. These people are categorized under the heading LIG. This housing is subsidized for comprising only one unit within a multi-Storey structure, not more than 60 sq.m. This is having only the necessities for inhabiting which may include basics like toilet facility, water and power supply, and the like.

MIG includes the household that earns an income between ₹ 6 Lakh to ₹ 12 Lakh annually. But there is a change. There are now two sub-categories of MIGs that are MIG-I and MIG-II category. The income of ₹ 6 Lakh to ₹ 12 Lakh falls under the MIG-I category while the household earning between ₹ 12 Lakh to ₹ 18 Lakh falls under the MIG-II category. Earlier it was introduced with the proposed carpet area of the household to comprise not more than 90 sq.m. for the MIG-I category, and 110 sq.m. for the MIG-II category. However, recently the policy was revised and renewed by the government, and the carpet area for both the categories was increased to 120 sq.m. and 150 sq.m. (MIG-I and MIG-II) respectively.

[NOTE: The above income criteria is not the annual income of an individual person but is the household income of including all the family members who are earning.]

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MIG AND LIG FLATS?

By now you must have gotten an idea about the basic difference between the MIG and LIG flats. But here, let’s discuss it with more clarity. The carpet area of LIG flats is not going to be more than 60 sq.m. while the MIG has two categories 1st and 2nd having the carpet area of 120 sq.m. and 150 sq.m. respectively.

So, the first difference is the huge difference between these two categories’ carpet area. The second main difference is the income criteria of course. The LIG is the household group earning between ₹ 3 to ₹ 6 Lakh per annum while the MIG is the household group earning between ₹ 6 to ₹ 12 Lakh and ₹ 12 to ₹ 18 Lakh (MIG-I and MIG-II category respectively).
